They called the prison they had created the Hollow Earth – a nightmare world built to keep our world safe. Over centuries, their Order grew strong: the men and women with the power to bind and animate the magic of this world learned to live in secret among us, watched over by their constant companions, the Guardians. Each Animarus was tasked with the protection of this world. Each Guardian was tasked with the protection of an Animarus. And in time the history of the Order was forgotten, their relics lost, and the Hollow Earth became nothing but a story. Now, twelve-year-old twins Matt and Emily Calder are about to discover this world for themselves...

Book excerpt: This book is an Anthology of Gregory Lessing Garrett's writings and others on the topic of Flat Earth Plane Cosmology of all types, including Enclosed Earth, Hollow Earth, Concave Earth, Infinite Plane Earth, The Enochian Earth Model, etc... The hope is that the ideas expounded in this Flat Earth Trilogy series will provide compelling justifications for the claim that no curvature can be found on the Earth, which points to the empirical conclusion that we live on a plane and not a spinning ball in science fiction outer space. The details regarding the possible topography of the Earth are discussed in depth in this book, but ultimately, the absolute true topography of the Earth is not known by anyone. -Gregory Lessing Garrett

It became one of the first encounters with people living in a place now called Hollow Earth. A hundred years later, another visitor had a less than friendly encounter. The three races of Hollow Earth had lived in peace for many centuries after a great war. But their world became threatened by a series of underground nuclear explosions that came from the surface. The people on the surface were totally ignorant of their existence and continued their explosions. Despite the Hollow Earth people being very cautious about retaliation, their patience had finally run out by the 2020s. The latest visitor became a pawn in a potential war that threatened every living thing on the surface. The Hollow Earths advanced technology meant that the surface dwellers were going to be in the fight of their lives, and they had no idea why.

This linked list of over 350 free science fiction stories and novels in Amazon's permanent collection was recently updated with hundreds of works from famous science fiction writers who wrote in the 1950's and 1960's and apparently forgot to extend their copyright protection. For the more recent authors SciFi fans will be familiar with, I just list the links (arranged by author) that will take you to their titles in the Kindle store for free download. For the earlier writers, I usually include a one or two line summary of their books. I thought I read all the classic SciFi twenty years ago, but I found a couple dozen authors I'd never heard of while researching Amazon's free collection. Most of the titles in this linked list of the free classic science fiction on Amazon were written before the "Golden Age" of science fiction, but influenced the authors who came later. I've included several early utopia/dystopia books, a popular subject in the late Victorian period. A few supernatural titles are included when the author also wrote other types of books. I didn't include fairy tales, and I made judgment calls on skipping science fiction/fantasy that was written for children and young adults, or just included a few samples from those authors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the hollow earth from the 17th century to the present. The bizarre idea that the earth's interior is hollow and, perhaps, even populated has been put to effective literary use by writers ranging from Edgar Allen Poe and Jules Verne to Rudy Rucker and Edgar Rice Burroughs. This notion had respectability as a scientific hypothesis until the early 1800s, and the theory that the earth "is hollow and inhabitable within" continues to find believers as an alternative description of the earth to this day. The hollow earth is one of the most important settings in the literature of the imagination that fed into early science fiction. Subterranean Worlds presents a fascinating look at the theme of the hollow earth and its history, as well as the geological theories which produced many of these stories. It excerpts key passages from the major subterranean world fictions, some translated into English for the first time. With helpful introductions to each selection and a comprehensive bibliography, this book is the definitive treatment of this entertaining topic.

Book excerpt: Encircled by an impenetrable thorn forest live the Alali, a tribe of primitive, Stone-Age giants with strange laws more savage than those of the jungle. Within the vast thorn boma also are the various tribes of the Minunians—eighteen-inch people with a high order of civilization, living in their complex, beehive like homes, fighting their savage wars on a miniature scale. Tarzan is captured by the Alali and makes his escape, but he is taken prisoner in one of the numerous battles of the little warlike people. Even his enormous strength and vitality quail beneath the tasks the Minunians set him, and he has to use all his jungle cunning to save his life and prove his eventual friendship for the courageous pygmy tribes.
